B-17 Pictures

Taking a flight in the historic Liberty Belle B-17 bomber was an amazing experience. This WWII plane has been restored and is in Bakersfield this week, with public flights available March 22nd.

Although this is dark, it was the best part, its where the guy sat who dropped the bombs, and is the forward most part of the plane, so its like a spherical window you can watch everything from, right at the front tip of the plane. You had to crawl down kind of a small hole underneath the cockpit to get to it. I was the first to get to check it out.

real good!

THINGS are going REAL GOOD! I've been doing some temp. work the last month+. The first position was part-time, mornings at a oil repair company called TIC (The Industrial Company). I chased paper trails and contemplated life's purposes. I worked the original contract of 4 weeks there, but when they asked me to stay 5 more weeks, I decided to move on. The only reason we were able to make it work in the first place was because Matt was able to shift his work schedule around for the short-term so we could earn the extra money.

BUT no sense crying over that!!!! I didn't even like it anyways. PLUS I started a new job. It's been cool-- the position is titled Research Assistant. My job is to fact check all the information for this magazine the newspaper puts out every summer called Kern Life. Kern Life is a resource book for residents & visitors alike. It lists all kinds of information like community highlights, concert venues, post offices, etc. My job is to make sure everything in that magazine is correct... so I go through it piece by piece. I'm excited because writing experience is something my life resume lacks & if I want to inch closer to a public relations career, i need that. It IS a temp. job of 5 weeks, but maybe it'll lead to more, who knows. So far, I'm enjoying it. And if nothing else, it's stinkin' cool to work in the newsroom. Plus I can eavesdrop on the news- like B-grade celebrity DUI's- before it is even published!

We're taking a trip to Nashville April 19-23. We're totally stoked... but trying not to think too hard about it cuz it's taking too long to come up! It's our favorite place to go & a total surprise because we didn't expect to go this year. Matt's mom is coming to watch Zoe. It's going to be perfect. :D
Oh & I'm having a baby... a coffeehouse baby. Ha. I planned a coffee house night with my church & we're doing it this Friday. It's called Mile 124. Music, coffee, art, community, expression, connection-- that's what it's about, should be real fun. I'm also psyched cuz we have a super awesome team of helpers to make it happen. Hands, mouths, eyes... many parts!

This is my perfect match-- I'm glad to share my life with him:

Here's a recent picture of Zoe & I from our Valentines love book we made for daddy:

Lucky there are a few other coffee shops here other than Starbucks or else my soul would long for Caribou Coffee all the more. I'm not saying I can't live without Caribou. What I am saying is Starbucks tastes like burnt dung. It often still feels surreal that we're here-- with this totally different life. I feel like a different person & reality is different here. I am determined to live in the now & I refuse to not dwell in the "if onlys." That doesn't always happen, but at least I'm trying to live on purpose. I'm trying to be someone who loves wisdom & loves love. I'm trying to be proactive in our thinking & think of how living in the present can give us a better future. And more all the time I realize how life is not handed to you. Only hard work & living life's adventures & riding out the valleys & and mountains......... life... we fight for life throughout the highs and lows. I want to work hard. I want to love. I want to do this right. Time for bed.

The Perks of Radio

Hellllooooooooo everyone!

Well we have some really fun things ahead at the radio station in the next several weeks. Today (March 11) Frank Viola will be on-air at 4:00pm. Frank is the author of Pagan Christianity (along with the more well known George Barna) and we will be talking about the controversial ideas addressed in the book. Make sure you don't miss it!

Next up, this coming Monday (17th) Dan and I are thrilled to be taking a flight in the historic Liberty Belle B-17 bomber. This WWII plane has been restored and will be in Bakersfield next week, with public flights available March 22nd. Coming in April, I will be talking to Mark Steele, author of the upcoming book Half-Life Die Already. Mark's first book, Flashbang: How I got Over Myself, was hilarious, but also drove home some solid, Biblical truth through his outrageous stories. That will be April 8th at 4:00pm. And of course, April is a big month as we'll be heading to GMA in Nashville. I am in the middle of lining up interviews there as well!

A few weeks ago, I invited Mike Martinez of the Independant Yakzir Maka Federation ( a faith-based martial art) to talk with me in the studio. We had a great time, and the interview went well. What you DIDN'T hear though, came after we turned off the mics. Just to test my skill, I thought I'd surprise Mike and attack him. It started well, as you can see here:

However, let me assure you that it is NEVER wise to attack an experienced martial artist with multiple black belts. I soon learned this lesson the hard way. He came back at me before I even knew what was happening:
And finally, Mike ended the squbble as quickly as it had begun with a Judo-throw right onto the studio sound board:

At this point, I figured Mike had had enough, so I let him go.....
